5 Tips to Stay Trim for Christmas
HO HO!!!! Well Christmas is upon us YEY (I love Christmas!) – and that means lots of yummy food and drink, after work Christmas drinksย and Christmas parties.ย So how does one go about enjoying all these great festivities without piling on the weight ??? Well while it might seem a difficult job to do, and lets face it most of us will adopt the attitude of ”its ok to over indulge now because my New Years Resolution will get me back on track”. But how many actually follow through with New Years Resolutions?? Not many !
So the trick is to do your best now so there is less work to do in the New Year ๐ With that being said here are my 5 Tips to Staying Trim this Christmas:
- Stay active! So many people drop off on their fitness routines because ”other ” things get more important around this time of year. When you keep up your fitness activity (whether that is daily morning walks with the dog, spin classes at the gym, or using your own home gym) – it is important to keep it up! Why? Because you will continue to burn those extra calories you are consuming from all that party food, so less work to do later on. If you abandon your workouts, it means you have double the work to do in the New year.
- Alcohol – well it is inevitable that most people will indulge in drinking over Christmas, so my tip here is to have a glass of water in between each drink. Doing this will keep you hydrated, and reduce the calories.
- When you feel full – STOP eating!! ๐ The food all looks great and very tempting, but honestly most of us tend to over eat, and you know what they say about having too much of a good thing! Overeating makes you feel bloated, makes you feel heavier than you actually are, brings on levels of guilt and can also make you feel drowsy. Pace yourself as you eat, and keep a look out for that time when your stomach is full, and take a break. The food is NOT going anywhere trust me ๐
- Limit your junk food shopping around this time. Alot of us use this time of year as an excuse to eat all the junk we
can (I am no stranger to this myself you know!) so the best way out of this is to NOT have it in the house!! Set yourself an amount of food to buy, and stick to it. Try not to buy more than what is on your list. Personally I like to indulge in the actual Christmas treats that we don’t get the rest of the year – because I know I won’t be having them for an other year. Knowing what you are going to buy before you shop, and arming your self with your shopping list is really helpful. - Last but not least – give yourself permission to enjoy Christmas and all it has to offer. If you slip up, don’t feel guilty about it, just get back up and have a better day tomorrow. Feeling guilty is a horrible feeling, especially if you have been doing so well, so take a step back, reassess, and move forward. Give yourself permission to enjoy all you want in moderation – just try not to over do it ๐
Hopefully those tips will keep you on track this Christmas.ย I know it is such a hard time of year to stay on track – even I have challenges which is a normal part of life. Feel free to leave comments on how you keep trim over Christmas, or if you have any tips to add to mine.
Enjoy your day ๐
